Obituary
Penny Thomas, loving wife and mother of two beautiful daughters, Amy and Laura, made her transition Sunday evening, July 19, 2015. We affectionately knew her as "Miss Penny", "Sugar" or "Sweet Pea". She passed peacefully in her sleep in her bedroom at home, finally succumbing to late-stage Parkinsons and dysphasia. There is comfort knowing that Penny must no longer suffer - yet, her freedom from pain leaves us who are left behind with the pain of grief, at least for a time. As the Unknown Poet once said, "Grief is not a sign of weakness nor a lack of faith …. It is the price of love." So true. Penny was and still is such a beautiful person. We will miss you, your beautiful face and contagious smile that would light up a room, your sweet voice and laughter, but we know you are in a better place. Thank you Penny for 41 wonderful years together, of loving and growing and raising our family together, for your kindness of spirit, for being such a fantastic Mom, for the love and affection you gave me and the girls all these years, and especially for giving us the privilege of knowing and loving you. We will miss you more than you can know, but release you into the light and loving arms of our Creator. I will see you again in the next world, my Love. Please prepare my place to join you when I arrive. We love you, Penny, so very much --in your own words, "every single, single, single thing."
"Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away to the next room.
I am I, and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other,
That, we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name.
Speak to me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, and think of me. Pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effect.
Without the trace of a shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same that it ever was.
There is absolute unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you.
For an interval.
Somewhere. Very near.
Just around the corner.
All is well."
Your loving husband, Robert, and the Girls, Amy and Laura. In lieu of sending flowers, we would ask anyone who wishes, to make a donation to Methodist Hospital or Amazing Grace Hospice Care in Houston.
I really enjoyed seeing Penny at our 20th reunion. She and Robin Ronaldes were best buds and hung around the pool area at the Chareau Dijon so I got to know both of them there. Penny was always a joy to talk to at school and when we'd run into each other after we entered the adult world. She will truly be missed. ~ Eric Renth
