Obituary:

Our loving mother, Kathleen Ann Keating Johnston passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2008. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marguerite and Edward Keating and her husband, Peter R. Johnston.

An only child, Kathy was born January 3, 1953, and adopted shortly after at Fort Bragg, NC. Her formative years were spent traveling with her military parents around the world. She especially loved living in Orleon, France. Kathy and her husband, Peter, spent a lifetime working with Scouts, receiving top honors as adult scouts and leaders. Also, she dedicated a great deal of time to helping the Red Cross. Additionally, she enjoyed working for the YMCA, a career path she followed for many years. Her children, Jennifer Marie Johnston, Peter R. Johnston, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Kelly, will miss her sweet spirit.

Kathy had a special love for her grandchildren, Austin & Joseph North, Sherri & Seth Johnston, who brought her great joy in recent years. A special thanks to her lifelong friend, Jimmy Weeber.

A celebration of Kathy's life will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2008, 3:00 p.m., at Sunset Memorial Park Gazebo with interment to follow. To give words of comfort to the family, go to www.mem.com. Sunset Funeral Home.

Remembering Kathy ....

Kim Arnold remembers Kathy and her parents …
I did not know very many students in high school. I was experiencing physical abuse at home. Kathy lived around the corner, and had me to her home to spend the night to get away from it. She was so brave and kind. Her parents also. There was not any CPS back then. Kathy made me smile and laugh, and I enjoyed being with her. Anyway it’s great to be older and I share my experience strength and hope with others that have been thru the same.

Toni Schmid remembers ...
it seems like much of the fun we had centered around water ... In 1967 or 68, my Dad drove Kathy and me up to Lake Granite Shoals (now known as Lake LBJ), hauling our ski boat behind us. He'd rented a cute little cabin. It was really fun. and he even let us go boating with 2 cute older guys we met while we were there. Unfortunately we didn't have a camera with us, but I remember that that weekend was a highlight.
We also spent alot of time over at Kay Stewart's house, which was across the street from my house ... She had a pool and a trampoline.. fun fun!
But the VERY BEST memory with Kathy, was spending practially entire summers out at the Stewart's lake house at Lake McQueeney. cool house! cool boat! cool lake! fun lake cruisin'! And, Kay was an awesome skier.. in fact she skied in the Ski Show many Sunday evenings.
